Kayaking on Tomales Bay
Overnight
Camping at Samuel P. Taylor State Park
December
11 and 12, 2004
WHAT: This adventure includes a kayaking trip on Tomales
Bay Saturday afternoon and a campout at nearby Samuel P. Taylor State Park

Tomales Bay is one of the most popular kayaking destinations in California. We will venture on a safe, 4-hour kayaking trip
escorted by guides from Blue Waters Kayaking (BWK). We
will have 1 guide for each 6 participants and will
be using closed-deck (sit in) sea kayaks. The cost is approximately $63 per participant*. Check out http://www.bwkayak.com/
* Note: Exact cost determined by a) number of participants and b) corresponding number of guides. The more participants, the lower the cost. We will not venture out in windy weather.
We will be camping in the group campsite area across the highway from the main campground at Samuel P. Taylor State Park, which is located on Sir Francis Drake Highway between Lagunitas and Olema. Paper Mill Creek runs through the length of the park. We will learn about the flora and fauna of the area, the history of the park (who was Samuel P. Taylor?), work on advancement, and likely observe salmon running up the creek to spawning areas.
WHEN: Meet at the clubhouse Saturday 7:00AM. Drive to SPTP to drop off our gear, then on to the bay for 4 hour kayaking, then eat lunch and return to SPTSP for an overnight campout. We will return to the clubhouse at 12 Noon on Sunday.
ADVANCEMENT: This trip offers advancement opportunities for
all, especially those seeking to achieve Tenderfoot, Second, and First Class. This trip will also count towards your camping
merit badge. Please review your requirements
so that all those attending are prepared for the advancement opportunities.
