WHAT:  Klondike Derby is a weekend of games and winter sports activities sponsored by the Achewon Nimat Lodge of the Order of the Arrow.  The competition events on Saturday, March 6 include sled racing and building snow shelters - among many others.

 

WHEN:  We meet at 6:00am and leave the clubhouse by 6:30am on Saturday, March 6. Registration at the Klondike Derby begins at 8:00am and ends at 9:30 am.  We will return to the clubhouse about 2pm on Sunday, March 7

 

DETAILS:  The event will be held at NACO Sunflower Preserve which is 161 miles East of San Francisco.  Follow I-80 to the Yuba Gap exit, which is approximately 37 miles past Auburn.  At the exit, take the right turn and follow the signs. 

 

The Klondike Derby will go on regardless of the weather.

 

Adults are invited, of course, to this very outdoor adventure. 

 

BRING/WEAR: Weather reports look very good so far, though it could always change and rain, snow, be muddy -- it will be cold.  Dress accordingly and be dry and warm at all times.  Have at least one set of dry clothing, socks, and underwear. 

 

Scouts are to wear Class A uniforms and layers, including thermal underwear, warm sweater, wind/waterproof jacket, ski bibs or powder pants (or other warm, waterproof pants, wool or ski socks (2-3 pair), warm hat or head band, warm waterproof gloves, goggles or sunglasses, lib balm, sunscreen, day pack, change of clothes, warm, waterproof boots, warm, water resistant sleeping bag.  

 

Pack a lunch for Saturday, and bring $6 for food (dinner and breakfast), bring extra $ for Sunday’s lunch in Fairfax, and $3 to pay the drivers for gas, bridge toll and any fees.

 

ADVANCEMENT OPPORTUNITIES:  Review your book - what do you need for Tenderfoot, Second and First Class?  Bring a compass and the rest of the ten essentials.  Don’t forget to log this event in your handbook addendum, as these count towards your Camping Merit Badge and as an outing in your advancement to First Class.
